Philly Cruises are Back!

As someone born and raised in Philadelphia, I can’t tell you how excited I am to share this news: cruises are officially coming back to Philly, and not just any cruises. Starting in 2026, Norwegian Cruise Line will be homeporting right here at PhilaPort! Yes, that means I can finally hop on a world-class cruise ship without ever having to get on a plane.

PhilaPort announced that beginning April 16 through October 17, 2026, the Norwegian Jewel®, which carries more than 2,300 guests, will be sailing directly from our waterfront. And honestly? It feels like Philadelphia is finally stepping into the cruise spotlight we’ve deserved for years.

Two Amazing Itineraries Right From Home

Norwegian Jewel will offer two very different but equally tempting routes, and I’m already daydreaming about doing both:

  • Bermuda Voyages (April–August)
Seven- to nine-day getaways to Bermuda complete with an overnight stay on the island. More time on pink-sand beaches? Yes, please.
  • Canada & New England Adventures (September–October)
Once fall rolls in, the ship will alternate between Philadelphia and Quebec City, offering longer 10- to 11-day itineraries with stops in charming ports like Saguenay, Charlottetown, and Halifax, plus classics like Bar Harbor and Boston.

Knowing I can sail to places like Bermuda or Quebec without the hassle of flying out of another city makes this announcement even sweeter.

A Win for Philly And I’m Proud of It

This isn’t just great news for travelers; It’s a major boost for Philadelphia’s economy. As locals, we know how much our city thrives when tourism grows. If cruise operations expand through 2028, the impact could mean:

  • Over 2,000 new jobs
  • More than $40 million in annual state and county tax revenue

As a Philadelphian, it makes me proud to see leaders like Governor Josh Shapiro and Mayor Cherelle Parker emphasizing how much this move will support local workers, businesses, and the city’s overall growth.

2026: Philly’s Biggest Year Yet

The timing honestly couldn’t be better. 2026 is shaping up to be a historic year for the city I love, from celebrating America’s 250th birthday to hosting the FIFA World Cup, the MLB All-Star Game, the PGA Championship, and March Madness. And now? Weekly cruises will be part of the excitement.

I can already imagine visitors getting off the ship and discovering the same Philly magic I grew up with, the neighborhoods, the history, the food, the energy.

A Port That Finally Works for Locals

With 30 million people living within a quick drive of the port, cruising from Philly is a total game-changer. No flights, no long road trips.  Just hop in the car, head downtown, and start your vacation!

And the Norwegian Jewel isn’t messing around. It’s loaded with:

  • 16 dining spots
  • 13 bars and lounges
  • Broadway-style entertainment
  • A wide selection of rooms and suites

All sailing from PhilaPort’s SouthPort Marine Terminal, a place that’s about to become one of my new favorite Philly landmarks.

I’m Ready to Cruise From My Hometown

Over the next two years, PhilaPort and partners across Pennsylvania will continue building out the cruise program, and more details will drop along the way. But for now, I’m just excited, because in 2026, I’ll be able to start a world-class vacation just minutes from where I grew up.

And honestly? That feels pretty incredible.
